I wish I could play good ol’ surf guitar Like Dick Dale and Link Wray and his Wray Men I’d sing songs about the sea And what purpose a porpoise has to me I’d sing from the shore to the ocean floor And boogie on the boardwalk at night At Half Moon Bay I’d take a ride Down “The 1” to Encinitas for high tide It seems to me just out of reach A mighty dorsal fin at Swami’s Beach I wish to see that dorsal fin again I’ll sit and practice surf guitar until my fingers bleed Oh how I need, inspiration From that creature in the sea
2.
I am laughing now at your strange, smiling face Who’s to know you’re the love of mine Who’s to know that you’ll carry my falling hand Open ocean all is not forgiving Resting tides underneath my head Careless in the sand with broken shells Walking through neither alive or dead On the coast of every early morning Sunrise innocence no more Complicated footsteps in the sand Feeling forever to the shore There’s a smirk on the dolphin I cannot trust anymore Only the ocean knows what we’re looking for Velvet water in-between our living Rusted colored shadows Statues of a tragic time rest on the sea floor

I knew it was you From your bottlenose shadow on the moon Oh what a night For a nice aquatic ride The lunar landscape up above I see the colors on your skin Reflect the salty shore And toss my cares into the wind I go back and forth from knowing this is wrong Echoes of a tiny window What will the land think, what will the ocean do What other act is there to follow? When your bottlenose shadow gives us away And only gravity can pull us down You wear that smirk so well, I can never tell When you’re laughing when you’re not If only the days gave us time, enough so I could find The truth behind our love

Thank you for an invitation to the beach of my dreams I hope that you can understand how much it means Every now and then I lost at low tide Once I found a seashell in the shape of our love I put it back in the sand just to find it again Secrets are better buried safe The deeper you dig, the heavier the sand The beach of my dreams, is much more than land It unties any shackles I have to the shore And lets me live and love forever more I’ll walk with you, you swim with me, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be You walk with me, I’ll swim with you, there’s nothing else I’d rather do We don’t need any words to communicate Only will our fossils reveal our fate Secrets are better buried safe The deeper you dig, the heavier the sand The beach of my dreams, is much more than land It unties any shackles I have to the shore And lets me live and love forever more

Ohio was never meant for me. I’ve been ocean bound since I was three. I’m never going back to a land locked life. I’m never going back to Ohio. I’m never going back to…

My love for you now distant in-between I should have never let you go Now the ocean feels empty to me Cause you’re living in some artificial sea I can’t feel anything anymore for anyone That compares to the times that we had under the sun Because the love between a man and a dolphin is more than just a moment long When I saw you for the first time I couldn’t even play guitar Now I’m writing surf songs and playing all the popular bars You were so much more than just a muse You taught me how to love without being confused Because the love between a man and a dolphin is more than just a moment long My love for you now distant in-between I should have never let you go Now what I’ve heard breaks my heart in two I’ll keep my half and the other goes to you I suppose I know, with you I was never there So you never came up for air

about

A surf-rock opera about an aspiring guitarist who finds a muse in a dolphin. The two notice each other day-in and day-out and thus form a bond. As the guitarist finally puts together a surf band and no longer visits the beach, the dolphin becomes lonely and misses the friend. And while the guitarist finds success in music, tragically, the dolphin succumbs to a fatal, depressive state.
